E-bike – how customers can fall into the weight trap

The important thing with e-bikes is the permissible total weight, including the bike's own weight. The risk of cycling and accidents increases if this is exceeded.

On 18 June 2024, the consumer magazine "Marktcheck" of the German TV channel SWR dealt with the permissible total weight of e-bikes. A topic that e-bike customers and dealers often pay too little or no attention to, but which is essential for the entire bicycle industry.

The increasing number of accidents involving e-bikes in the last years was the reason to deal with this topic.

Barbara Hirl's report shows what needs to be taken into account during production and testing, when buying and selling e-bikes, in order to guarantee customer safety.
