The bicycle is like a dream that is real: “Everywhere we are looking for and researching for the mobility solution. It should be efficient, climate-friendly, affordable, clean, independent of fossil fuels and, if possible, also convey a feeling of freedom,” said Wissing at the State Representation of North Rhine-Westphalia. “The bicycle combines almost all the aspects I just mentioned.”
The organising German bicycle associations, Zweirad-Industrie-Verband (ZIV), Bundesvereinigung Zukunft Fahrrad (BVZF) and Verbund Service und Fahrrad (VSF), welcomed Wissing's announcement that the special Urban and Rural Programme would be continued beyond 2023 for at least the current legislative period. The special programme bundles numerous possibilities of funding the traffic policy on the spot. Until the end of 2023, the programme, which was launched by the last Merkel cabinet, includes funding totalling 670 million Euros.
